Following the tragic death of a Bengaluru techie who drowned in neck-deep water at an underpass, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has initiated a probe to investigate the incident. Efforts to Ensure Safety
DK Shivakumar stated that the government has ordered a report on all underpasses in the state, including the 18 underpasses in Bengaluru. The aim is to thoroughly examine the conditions of these underpasses and identify any areas that require improvements to ensure the safety of citizens. The government is committed to protecting the lives of its residents and will take appropriate actions based on the findings of the report.
Tragic Incident Details
The incident took place at the KR Circle underpass, located near Vidhana Soudha, the seat of power in Karnataka. A 22-year-old woman, identified as Bhanurekha, drowned after the car she was traveling in with her family got stuck in neck-deep water. Despite the efforts of fire and emergency services personnel, Bhanurekha was declared brought dead upon arrival at the hospital. Five others, including the driver, were saved with the help of bystanders and emergency personnel.
Immediate Government Response
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah rushed to the hospital to assess the situation and announced a compensation of Rs five lakh to the family of the deceased. He also ensured free treatment for those injured in the incident. The Chief Minister expressed concern over claims that doctors refused to treat Bhanurekha, who was alive when she reached the hospital, and promised an investigation into the matter.
The tragic incident at the flooded underpass has prompted Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar to take immediate action.
