Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and members of his Shiv Sena faction are set to visit the Ayodhya Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh on April 9th. The visit is considered a new move by the Shiv Sena group to challenge the control of the Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb’s political legacy from the Uddhav Thackeray faction. This is Shinde’s first visit to Ayodhya since becoming Maharashtra chief minister in June 2022. During the visit, Shinde and his team are expected to perform a ‘maha aarti’ with others at the under-construction Ram temple and then at the Sharayu River in the evening. The Shiv Sena has booked all the hotels, guest houses, and dharamshalas to host Shiv Sena ministers, MPs, and MLAs.

Earlier on Saturday, the Maharashtra Chief Minister arrived in Lucknow before heading to Ayodhya on Sunday. According to his advisors, he will return to Mumbai on Sunday night. Shinde’s itinerary includes a visit to Shri Ram Katha Helipad Park in Ayodhya and then driving to the hotel. He will also visit the Ram Mandir building site and hold a news conference in Ayodhya on Sunday afternoon. Shinde had earlier told reporters in Mumbai, “We will be going to Ayodhya for Lord Ram’s blessings on April 9 and it’s a matter of belief and sentiments, we will perform Aarti… I still remember that Dharmveer Anand Dhigana had sent a silver brick with Karsevark so we have old bonding with Ram Lalla… we will be visiting the temple also.”
