Tragic Accident: Pregnant Woman Fatally Shot By 2-Year-Old Son In Norwalk

A tragic incident occurred in Norwalk, Ohio, where a pregnant woman lost her life after being accidentally shot by her 2-year-old son. The woman, identified as Laura Ilg, was doing laundry in the bedroom when her son followed her in without her realizing and started playing with a gun. The details of the incident are as follows:

The Accident

Laura Ilg told the police that she was doing laundry in the bedroom, which was usually locked. Her son had followed her in without her realizing and started playing with the gun.

The Call for Help

Laura Ilg immediately called 911 after being shot by her 2-year-old son. She informed the police that she was 33 weeks pregnant and had been accidentally shot with a firearm. She went into shock and experienced difficulty breathing.

Emergency Response

The police arrived at the scene in Norwalk and found the victim conscious on the bedroom floor with a gun on the nightstand. She was quickly transported to Fisher-Titus Medical Center for an emergency caesarean section. Unfortunately, the unborn child could not be saved, and Laura Ilg passed away a few hours later.

Safety Measures

Despite the presence of safety features in the house, such as baby gates, which are usually closed, they were left open. Laura Ilg, while conscious, informed the police that she was unaware her son had followed her into the bedroom. The child somehow gained access to the gun and started playing with it, leading to an accidental discharge.

Firearms Found
