PM Modi Expresses Grief in April ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Over Pahalgam Terror Attack

In the latest edition of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation with a heavy heart following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The April 2025 episode marked the 120th edition of his monthly radio programme.

Modi began the broadcast by expressing profound grief over the incident, calling it “an attack on the soul of the nation.” He conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and emphasized the nation’s united resolve against terrorism.

Strong Warning: “Justice Beyond Imagination”

PM Modi, while speaking in Mann Ki Baat, declared that the perpetrators of the attack would face consequences beyond their imagination. He asserted:

“No matter where they hide, justice will reach them. The nation will not forget, and it will not forgive.”

He also reinforced India’s zero-tolerance stance against terrorism, stressing that such acts would only strengthen the country’s determination to eliminate extremism.

Emergency Measures Taken Post-Attack

Following the attack, the Prime Minister cut short his diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to New Delhi to chair an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). Key decisions made during the meeting included:

  • Suspension of the Indus Water Treaty talks with Pakistan
  • Closure of the Attari-Wagah border indefinitely
  • Cancellation of all existing Pakistani visas
  • Expulsion of Pakistani diplomats from India
  • Recall of Indian diplomatic staff from Islamabad

Additionally, Home Minister Amit Shah visited Srinagar and announced that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) would lead the probe.

Nationwide and Global Condemnation

Leaders and citizens across India condemned the attack. Candlelight vigils, protest marches, and silent demonstrations were held in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

Internationally, the United Nations, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia expressed solidarity with India. UN Secretary-General António Guterres termed the act “an inexcusable attack on humanity.”

Kashmiri Citizens Speak Out Against Violence

Notably, locals in Kashmir publicly denounced the incident. Community leaders and students called it an assault on “Kashmiriyat,” urging for peace and unity. The region saw spontaneous shutdowns and gatherings to mourn the victims.

A Message of Unity in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

In his address, Modi emphasized national unity and resilience, saying:

“India’s strength lies in its unity. These cowardly attacks will only strengthen our collective spirit.”

He encouraged citizens to continue supporting the armed forces and maintain communal harmony during this time of national sorrow.

What Lies Ahead

With strong public backing and firm governmental resolve, India appears set for a renewed crackdown on terrorism. As detailed in this month’s Mann Ki Baat, the nation is entering a phase of strategic recalibration to safeguard civilian lives and national sovereignty.

The next few weeks are expected to see intensified diplomatic and military moves, especially concerning border security and counter-terror operations.
