A 28-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend after she refused to engage in intimate activities with him in a public place. The incident involved the man attempting to strangle the woman and banging her head against a rock. Background
The accused, identified as Akash Mukherjee, and his 28-year-old girlfriend were colleagues at a company where he works. They had been in a relationship for several years. On the day of the incident, the couple traveled from Kalyan to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) via a local train. They visited tourist spots such as the Gateway of India and Girgaon Chowpatty before heading to Bandra Bandstand in the evening.
The Alleged Assault
During their time at Bandra Bandstand, Mukherjee informed his girlfriend that he had converted to her religion to marry her. However, he then demanded to engage in intimate activities with her, which she rejected. Enraged by her refusal, Mukherjee allegedly attempted to strangle her and struck her head against a rock. He even tried to drown her in a drain. The woman cried out for help, leading nearby individuals to alert the police.
Arrest and Current Status
The police promptly arrived at the scene and apprehended Mukherjee. They took him into custody while sending the injured woman to the hospital for medical treatment. Based on the statement provided by the girlfriend, the Bandra police arrested Mukherjee on the charge of attempted murder. The woman’s condition has stabilized, and she is recovering from her injuries.
