The DAVINCI mission was named after Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), but no reference to Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was necessary. NASA announced plans to reach the surface of Venus in 2031 through an initiative.
The space agency reiterated on its official website that it will be the first to investigate the planet through flybys and surface missions.
According to the portal FayerWayera Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble Gases, Chemistry, and Imaging (in Portuguese, Investigation of noble gases in Venus’s deep atmosphere, chemistry, and imaging), this will be the third mission to the planet Venus, following Pioneer (1978) and Magellan (1982). (early 1990s).
NASA mission completion dates
According to the space agency, the spacecraft is expected to enter Venus’ orbit in 2029 and reach its surface two years later, in 2031.

Jim Garvin, the director of DAVINCI and a researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, gave some mission details: “This array of chemical, environmental, and descending photos will construct a picture of Venus’s stratified atmosphere, as well as how it interacts with the surface in Alpha Regio’s mountains, which are twice the size of Texas,” he explained.
“The measurements will allow us to examine historical aspects of the atmosphere, as well as detect special sorts of rocks on the surface, such as granites, while also looking for telltale landscape patterns that can educate us about erosion or other formation processes,” the researchers explained.
It’s worth recalling that one of the DAVINCI mission’s goals will be to determine whether or not Venus once had oceans.
