Heavy passenger congestion was reported at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) on Sunday night following the delayed departure of multiple trains, leading to panic among travellers at platforms 12 and 13. However, railway authorities and police officials confirmed that no stampede took place, and no injuries were reported.

The incident, which occurred around 9 PM, caused alarm as it came weeks after the tragic February 15 stampede at the same station that left 18 people dead. Sunday’s episode, however, was quickly brought under control, officials said.
Trains Affected and Passenger Build-Up Heavy Rush at New Delhi Railway Station

According to DCP (Railway) KPS Malhotra, the congestion was due to the cumulative delays of several trains:
- Shiv Ganga Express (scheduled for 8:05 PM)
- Jammu Rajdhani Express (9:25 PM)
- Lucknow Mail (10:00 PM)
- Magadh Express (9:05 PM)
Additionally, the Swatantrata Senani Express, scheduled to leave at 9:15 PM, was already occupying one of the platforms, further adding to the platform congestion.
“There was no stampede, only some extra crowd and heavy rush. After the trains departed, the situation eased,” DCP Malhotra clarified.
Swift Response Averts Incident

A senior Railway Protection Force (RPF) official confirmed that they arrived at the scene as a precaution. “We just dispersed the crowd as the trains began arriving. No one was injured,” the official added.
A Northern Railways spokesperson also stated:
“There was heavy rush, but no stampede or stampede-like situation at New Delhi Railway Station.”
Authorities implemented crowd control measures promptly to prevent any escalation. Police and railway staff worked together to guide passengers and ease congestion.
Though the New Delhi Railway Station witnessed heavy passenger rush due to train delays, swift action by law enforcement and rail officials prevented any untoward incident. The situation was brought under control with no harm reported, providing reassurance after last month’s tragic stampede.
