The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids at approximately 25 locations in Karnataka, Kerala, and Bihar as part of the Phulwarisharif case involving the Popular Front of India (PFI). The raids, which are still ongoing, target individuals suspected of being involved in violent and unlawful activities connected to PFI. The suspects had assembled in the Phulwarisharif area of Patna.
Previous Arrests and Seizure of Incriminating Evidence
In a related development, six individuals were previously arrested, and various incriminating articles and documents linked to PFI were seized in this case. The initial registration of the case took place on July 12 of the previous year at the Phulwarisharif police station in Bihar’s Patna district. The case was subsequently re-registered by the NIA on July 22.
Weapons and Ammunition Seizure in Bihar’s Motihari
The NIA also conducted searches at eight locations in Bihar’s Motihari on February 4-5 of this year. During these searches, two individuals were arrested for their involvement in arranging weapons and ammunition with the intention of carrying out a killing. The arrested individuals were identified as Tanveer Raza alias Barkati and Md Abid alias Aryan.
PFI Trainer’s Role and Disruptive Social Media Activity
According to the NIA, the investigation revealed that the PFI Trainer, Yakoob, had already conducted surveillance for a target and had received the arms and ammunition. Yakoob had been conducting training sessions for PFI cadres. Recently, Yakoob posted a derogatory and inflammatory video on Facebook, aiming to disturb peace and communal harmony. The agency stated that other Facebook users had responded with abusive comments and trolling. The absconding accused Yakoob, along with the two arrested individuals, had identified some users and conspired to execute the targeted killing. The NIA has previously stated that the arrests made in this case have dismantled a PFI module planning targeted killings and attempting to disrupt communal harmony.
