Son of Sardaar 2 Trailer: Ajay Devgn’s Comeback as Jassi Falls Flat in Loud, Chaotic Sequel

The much-anticipated Son of Sardaar 2 trailer dropped today, but instead of nostalgia, it delivered confusion and disappointment — with fans rating it just 1 out of 5 stars.

Mumbai, July 11: If you were expecting the return of Ajay Devgn’s Jassi to be a riot of nostalgia and solid punchlines, the trailer for “Son of Sardaar 2”, released earlier today, might leave you rubbing your temples. Packed with frantic energy but light on charm or coherence, the much-hyped sequel has landed with a thud among many viewers — some even calling it a full-blown mess.

To put it bluntly: 1 out of 5 stars. That’s the rating doing the rounds on several fan forums and WhatsApp groups tonight.

Loud, Fast, And Struggling To Land A Punch – Son Of Sardaar 2 Trailer

The trailer opens with an elderly woman pole-dancing at a wedding, followed by a collapse and the line “Bebe marr gayi.” It sets the tone — absurdist, slapstick, and high on volume. Devgn, returning after 13 years as the boisterous yet oddly lovable Jassi, is now in Scotland, caught up in an outrageous plot involving fake families, arranged marriages, and mafia dons.

Unfortunately, the setup doesn’t translate into laughs. Instead, the jokes feel forced and the pacing chaotic. The trailer tries to juggle far too many elements — emotional manipulation, fake patriotism, regional stereotypes — without landing on a consistent tone.

As per Koimoi, “Double the mess, triple the noise” sums up the trailer’s aesthetic. That might have worked in 2012. In 2025, it feels stale.

Star Cast, But No Chemistry

Alongside Devgn is Mrunal Thakur, replacing Sonakshi Sinha as the female lead. Their dynamic? Practically non-existent. While Thakur is talented, the script gives her little room to breathe. Fans online were quick to voice their disappointment over Sonakshi’s absence, with several noting that her earlier chemistry with Devgn gave the original film its emotional anchor.

The rest of the cast — including Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Chunky Panday, Neeru Bajwa, and Deepak Dobriyal — are veterans of comedy, yet even they seem out of sync here. The trailer also features the late Mukul Dev in his final role, which adds a brief emotional pause in an otherwise frenzied reel.

Visual Upgrade, But Hollow Core

Scotland offers postcard visuals, no doubt. The cobbled streets, grey skies, and misty lochs provide a new canvas. But behind the visual upgrade, the film seems to lack soul. The core storyline — pretending to be an army family to win over a gangster patriarch — feels half-baked, even by Bollywood comedy standards.

As Cinema Express notes, there’s potential in the “comedy-of-errors” premise, but the execution feels rushed and gimmicky. Worse still, the humor veers into uncomfortable territory with satirical digs at Pakistan that feel neither edgy nor funny — just lazy.

Devgn’s Finger-Dance Sparks Meme Storm

Among the few talking points to emerge from the trailer is Devgn’s bizarre “finger-dance” routine. It’s gone viral, albeit not for the right reasons. At the trailer launch, when asked about the trolling, Devgn reportedly laughed it off, saying, “If people are dancing with their fingers, the job’s done.”

That may be true. But beyond the memes, the trailer lacks the magnetism that made the first film a surprise hit.

Release Incoming, But Expectations Now Tempered

“Son of Sardaar 2” is set to hit theatres on July 25, 2025, with promotions already in full swing. Devgn posted the trailer on his Instagram with the caption: “Action! Emotions! Confusion ka bhandaar. JASSI is back.” But early buzz suggests that audiences aren’t buying the hype just yet.

Some fans are still holding out hope that the full movie delivers more nuance, or at least tighter writing. But if the trailer is any indication, this sequel might struggle to replicate the success or even the sincerity of its predecessor.

For now, 1/5 feels like a fair call. Let’s see if the movie can climb any higher.
