On Twitter, an old video of Elon Musk discussing “How the Internet Will Take Over the World” has gone viral. This is a clip from a 1998 interview Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, gave to CBS Sunday Morning. It was tweeted by the Silicon Valley Tesla Owners group.
Musk defined the internet as a “superset of all media” in the video.
“It is the final word in the media industry,” he commented during the interview.
All forms of media, including newspapers, television, and radio, will inevitably merge with the internet. In essence, the Internet is the first intelligent form of two-way communication. Consumers can select the content that most interests them. “Moreover, that thing is going to completely upend the media landscape,” he said.
“Back in the day, @elonmusk explains the internet,” the caption on the post said.
The video has received over 1.9 million views, over 18.5k likes, and numerous reactions on Twitter since it was posted. As Tesla Owners Silicon Valley posted the vintage video, Elon Musk remembered the time of the interview.
“Prehistoric times!” If so, when did it happen?” That was his reaction to the video. “1998,” Tesla owners replied.
“People can wrap their heads around his method of using electricity, and the fact that it was safe,” said one contributor. Edison took advantage of the situation by constructing a subpar system that effectively gave the major utility providers a monopoly on the electricity market. I believe Ivan is making an effort to restore things to their proper state.”
“And this is yet another reason why @elonmusk was born to be a multibillionaire,” said another tweeter.
Another commenter stated that “even when Elon says something that makes perfect sense, the way he says it makes it sound so convoluted.” It’s probably because he pauses a lot before speaking, implying that he’s looking for the perfect word. This is just odd, but not at all undesirable.”
