At least three people have been killed and dozens injured in missile attacks carried out by Russian forces on several civilian buildings in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih. The city is also the hometown of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Local officials reported that the attack occurred overnight, causing significant damage to residential buildings. Rescue operations are currently underway to save those trapped under the rubble. The regional governor of Dnipropetrovsk, Serhiy Lysak, confirmed the ongoing rescue efforts. In addition to the civilian buildings, a warehouse was also destroyed in the missile strikes. The attack resulted in a five-story apartment building being severely damaged, with shattered windows, according to BBC reports.
President Zelenskyy Condemns the Attack and Vows Accountability for Russian “Terrorists”
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was born in Kryvyi Rih, strongly condemned the attack on his hometown and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He promised that the Russian “terrorists” responsible for the attack would never be forgiven and would be held accountable for each missile launched. Zelenskyy emphasized that the Russian forces continue to wage a war against residential areas and innocent people in Ukraine.
Air Raid Sirens Sound Across Ukraine, Kyiv Also Targeted
During the early hours of Tuesday, air raid sirens were heard throughout Ukraine, signaling the widespread nature of the attacks. The capital city of Kyiv was also targeted. However, Ukrainian officials reported that most of the attacks were successfully repelled. Kyiv’s military officials confirmed that the country’s air defense forces had intercepted and destroyed all Russian missiles aimed at the capital. Ukrainian air forces were also able to destroy ten out of the fourteen cruise missiles launched by Russia, along with one of the four Iranian-made drones deployed.
Ukraine Claims Advances in Counteroffensive Against Russian Forces
These recent air attacks coincide with Ukraine’s claims of retaking several villages and making progress in its counteroffensive against Russian forces. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy had earlier stated that offensive and defensive operations were underway against the Russian forces, and he expressed confidence in the positive mindset of his top commanders and troops engaged in fierce fighting along the front line.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense as both sides continue to engage in hostilities. The international community closely watches the ongoing conflict and its implications for regional stability.
