Shri Karauli Shankar Mahadev himself inaugurated this year’s first Dandwat Yatra from Shri Karauli Shankar Mahadev Mukti Dham. Before the journey began devotees prepared a beautifully decorated buggy carrying revered images of two spiritual leaders – Baba Ji Pandit Shri Radharaman Ji Mishra and Guru Mata Maa Kamrup Kamakhya. After ritualistic puja by temple priests, Guru Maharaj lit the ceremonial lamp and led the devotees forward on the yatra.
Over 3000 devotees poured in from far and wide to join the spiritual foot march. The crowds filled the streets with holy chants of ‘Karoli Shankar’ as they walked behind Guruji from the ashram to the gaushala. The overwhelming response warmed Guru Maharaj’s heart and he encouraged devotees throughout the long walk. The atmosphere brimmed with energy and hopes of achieving moksha. Every devotee seemed determined to free themselves from suffering and pain.
The meticulously planned route spans over 40 kms across 2 days. It originates from the Mukti Dham ashram in Kanpur and concludes at the same location after seeking blessings from Maa Ganga at the midpoint. After walking 20 kms, devotees will take rest on the banks of River Ganges near Sarasaiya Ghat after finishing Ganga aarti.
The next day will begin with a pre-dawn boat ride for a holy dip followed by sunrise aarti. Rejuvenated bhajan singing will prepare everyone for the return 20 km walk back to the ashram while carrying message of moksha for people enroute. Upon reaching the ashram, prasad will be distributed as a symbolic gesture of sharing blessings with one and all.
In similar manner, special dandwat yatras for devotees will be organized every full moon and new moon which will provides continuity for those unable to complete the longer annual journey. The yatras deliver powerful lessons for devotees besides a chance for liberation from suffering. The believers feel that after going on the Dandvat Yatra and coming to the Karauli Shankar Mahadev Mukti Dham, they get freed from all kinds of miseries.
Devotees who have gone on pilgrimages earlier have said that the direct grace of Karauli Shankar Mahadev remains on such devotees who take part in the yatra with so much effort. People from all over the country and abroad come to the Dham located in Kanpur in thousands to get rid of Pitru Dosh (curse of ancestors). These journeys designed by the revered Shri Karauli Shankar Mahadev himself promise self-realization and eternal peace for all.
