Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly expresses his belief that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should be part of the T20I squad despite their exclusion from the upcoming West Indies T20Is. Ganguly emphasizes that the selectors should focus on selecting the best team, irrespective of age or experience. He points out Kohli’s impressive form in the IPL and argues that if he can perform at that level, there is no reason why Kohli or Rohit cannot be selected for T20I cricket. Ganguly firmly believes that both players have a place in the T20 format.
Youngsters Missing Out, but Opportunities Await
Ganguly also comments on the exclusion of youngsters Jitesh Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rinku Singh from the West Indies T20I squad. He assures them that if they continue performing, their time will come. Ganguly acknowledges the competitive nature of squad selection, where only 15 players can be picked, and only 11 can play. He encourages the young players to remain persistent and take advantage of the opportunities they receive.
