- In another mixing bowl, beat the butter until it is soft and then sift in the icing sugar.
- Add the vanilla extract and double cream and beat the mixture until it is smooth.

- Leave the frosting to cool and thicken slightly before spreading it over the top of one of the cakes.
- Place the second cake on top and spread the remaining frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
