Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to officially inaugurate the Kalaignar Multi Super Specialty Hospital in Guindy, Chennai. The hospital, constructed at a cost of Rs 230 crore, will have 1,000 beds and offer a range of medical facilities including cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, surgical gastroenterology, medical and surgical oncology, vascular surgery, urology, and more.
Delay in AIIMS, Madurai Construction
The CM’s mention of “delivering on our aims” can be seen as a subtle criticism of the Central government’s delay in constructing AIIMS, Madurai. In March, TN Health Minister Ma Subramanian revealed that AIIMS at Thoppur had not made progress beyond a compound wall.
Inauguration Details
CM Stalin initially announced the construction of the hospital on June 3, 2021, and laid the foundation stone in March 2022. The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for the centenary birth anniversary of Kalaignar M Karunanidhi, was delayed due to the unavailability of President Droupadi Murmu, who was personally invited by Stalin. The ceremony is expected to be attended by ministers, MPs, MLAs, and the general public.
