In a recent statement, Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar has accused Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) of betraying the people of Telangana by failing to fulfill promises related to water, funds, and jobs. Javadekar, a former Union minister, highlighted that the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, touted as a solution to water scarcity, has only covered one lakh acres instead of the promised 18 lakh acres.
Slogan of Progress Turns into Allegations of Corruption
Javadekar criticized the transformation of KCR’s slogan of ‘Neellu, Nidhulu, Niyamakalu’ (water, funds, and jobs) during the statehood agitation into what he perceives as “corruption, family rule, and betrayal of Telangana.” He further pointed out that the expenditure on the Kaleshwaram project escalated significantly, and the promised water delivery has not materialized, leading him to label the situation as “nothing but loot.”
Financial Burden and Broken Promises
The BJP leader raised concerns about the state’s financial health, stating that Telangana, once a surplus state with approximately Rs 360 crore, is now burdened with over Rs 5 lakh crore in government loans and guarantees given to other loans. This accumulation of debt, according to Javadekar, is tantamount to betrayal of the state’s financial stability.
Unfulfilled Employment Promises
Regarding the employment sector, Javadekar highlighted the absence of recruitment for teachers and professors. He pointed out leaks in question papers of recruitment tests conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC), coupled with the non-implementation of promised unemployment allowances. In contrast, he noted that the family members of the Chief Minister seemed to secure “political employment.”
Counterargument by Chief Minister Rao
In response to Javadekar’s claims about the Kaleshwaram project’s coverage, Chief Minister Rao challenged the assertion that only one lakh acres have been irrigated, suggesting that the actual coverage is higher than claimed.
Continued Political Discourse
The allegations made by Javadekar have fueled further political discourse in Telangana. As the state faces challenges related to irrigation, finance, and employment, the claims and counterclaims between the ruling party and the opposition party remain at the forefront of public attention.
