Disney Drops Electrifying First Trailer for ‘Tron: Ares’ Starring Jared Leto – Release Date Revealed

Disney has officially released the first trailer for Tron: Ares, days after it debuted exclusive footage at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas. Directed by Joaquim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), this highly anticipated sci-fi sequel reboots the Tron universe with a bold new premise: an AI program enters the real world for the first time.

Jared Leto Leads as Ares in Groundbreaking Sci-Fi Mission

At the core of Tron: Ares is Jared Leto, portraying a digital program named Ares who crosses into the human realm on a dangerous mission that marks mankind’s first contact with artificial intelligence from the Grid. The trailer showcases surreal visuals of lightcycles crashing into real-world environments, blending digital and physical worlds in a spectacular fashion.

Supporting Cast Includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and More

The cast features a dynamic mix of new and returning talent. Greta Lee and Evan Peters are seen reacting to the chaos unfolding as Ares invades their reality. The ensemble also includes Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, and Cameron Monaghan, with veteran star Jeff Bridges reprising his iconic role. Gillian Anderson joins the franchise in an undisclosed role, adding gravitas to the expanding Tron mythos.

Music by Nine Inch Nails: A Sonic Evolution from Daft Punk

While Daft Punk scored the memorable soundtrack for 2010’s Tron: Legacy, Tron: Ares marks a shift in sonic direction with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Credited here as Nine Inch Nails, the Oscar-winning duo brings a darker, edgier soundscape that matches the trailer’s haunting visuals. This music evolution mirrors the thematic shift from digital utopia to a grittier confrontation between man and machine.

A Long Journey to the Screen

Tron: Ares has had a long road to production. Originally developed as Tron 3 with Legacy director Joseph Kosinski at the helm, the film was shelved in 2015 after Disney’s acquisition of major franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. Kosinski later moved on to helm Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming Brad Pitt racing movie F1.

“I got so close. I really tried,” Kosinski said in a recent interview. “But it was a different Disney by 2015. We were the play for fantasy and sci-fi. Then Marvel and Star Wars came in, and ‘Tron’ became the odd one out.”

Following the shelving, Disney redeveloped the project with Joaquim Rønning taking over directorial duties and Jared Leto signing on as both lead actor and producer.

Production Team and Creative Forces Behind ‘Tron: Ares’

The film is produced by Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger — the original creator of Tron. Russell Allen serves as executive producer.

Official Release Date Set for October 10, 2025

Tron: Ares will open exclusively in theaters on October 10, 2025. With its groundbreaking blend of visual effects, philosophical themes, and a stellar cast, the film is shaping up to be one of Disney’s major sci-fi tentpoles of the year.

Fans and sci-fi enthusiasts can now stream the Tron: Ares trailer online and prepare for a new era where the digital meets the real in dramatic, high-octane fashion.
