A clash erupted between two groups in Gitaldaha, Cooch Behar, West Bengal, leading to the death of one person and injuries to four others, according to officials. Sumit Kumar, Cooch Behar Superintendent of Police, stated that five people sustained bullet injuries during the clash, resulting in the death of Babu Hoque. This incident occurred shortly after another clash between workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the scrutiny of nomination papers for the panchayat elections.
BJP Accuses TMC of Hurling a Bomb at MoS Nisith Pramanik
During the clashes on June 17, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nisith Pramanik was reportedly attacked, as per a PTI report. The BJP accused the TMC of hurling a bomb at the Minister while the police allegedly stood helpless. MoS Nisith Pramanik claimed that the police remained silent spectators during the clash, with papers being snatched from BJP workers and women being assaulted. He condemned these acts as an insult to the Constitution.
TMC’s Udayan Guha Accused of Leading 1000-1500 Individuals in Snatching ‘Form B’ from BJP Workers
According to West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar, TMC leader Udayan Guha was present at the scene of the incident with a group of 1000-1500 individuals who allegedly snatched “Form B” from BJP workers at the Block Development Office in Sahebganj. Majumdar further criticized the Election Commission and state administration for their silence on the matter. He questioned the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asking if she is effectively governing the state or merely putting on a show.
