The White House National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby, has strongly condemned the vandalism that occurred at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. In his statement, Kirby called the attack “absolutely unacceptable” and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to defending the safety and security of diplomatic facilities and diplomats.

The vandalism occurred on Sunday, when a group of Khalistan supporters broke through makeshift security barriers set up by police and installed two Khalistani flags inside the Consulate premises. The protesters then entered the consulate and attacked its doors and windows with iron rods, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).

A US State Department spokesperson also condemned the attack, stating that the United States “condemns the attack against the Indian Consulate and any attack against diplomatic facilities within the United States.” The spokesperson also pledged to defend the safety and security of diplomatic facilities and the diplomats who work within them.
India Demands Explanation from UK Over Flag Incident
The attack on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco is not an isolated incident. Just one day before, pro-Khalistani activists in London pulled down the Indian flag at the Indian High Commission during a protest. India summoned the senior-most British diplomat in Delhi and demanded an explanation over the “complete absence of security” at the mission. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra called on the UK to quickly arrest and prosecute those involved in the incident.
Indian-American Community Condemns Attack
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from the Indian-American community. The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) released a statement saying they were “appalled by the complete law and order failure” both in London and San Francisco.
Khalistan Supporters Protest in Australia
In addition to the attacks in San Francisco and London, Khalistani supporters gathered outside the Australian Parliament in Canberra to protest against the police crackdown on radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his associates in Punjab.
