In a recent development, senior advocate Kapil Sibal has launched an attack on the government in response to the demand made by wrestlers for action against outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Sibal, who represented the protesting wrestlers in the Supreme Court, predicts that Singh will not be arrested and a weak chargesheet will be filed, after which he will be granted bail.
Delegation of Protesting Wrestlers Meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah
This attack by Sibal comes after a delegation of protesting wrestlers reportedly met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday. Wrestler Bajrang Punia confirmed that the wrestlers’ delegation had a meeting with Shah.
Sibal’s Prediction: No Arrest, Wishy-Washy Chargesheet, and Granting of Bail
Expressing his views on the matter, Sibal took to Twitter and stated, “Amit Shah meets team of wrestlers. Wrestling for solutions. My prediction: No arrest. Wishy-washy chargesheet will be filed. Brij Bhushan will be granted bail. Then they will say matter is sub-judice!” Sibal’s prediction suggests that Singh may escape arrest, and even if a chargesheet is filed, it might be weak in nature. He further anticipates that Singh will be granted bail, and the case will be claimed to be under judicial consideration.
FIRs Registered Against Brij Bhushan Singh
On April 28, the Delhi Police registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) against Brij Bhushan Singh at the Connaught Place police station. One of the FIRs was filed based on a complaint from the father of a minor wrestler under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which carries a potential prison term of up to seven years upon conviction. The FIRs, initiated following a Supreme Court order, charge Singh with various offenses, including assault, sexual harassment, and stalking.
