The 12th World Hindi Conference will begin on Wednesday in Nadi, Fiji, with the assistance of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Indian Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar.
Jaishankar will be the first Indian head of state to visit the South Pacific Ocean island nation of Fiji since a new coalition government took office in December.
Saurabh Kumar, Secretary East at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said at a press conference that Jaishankar would meet with various members of the Fijian government and pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Rabuka.
The World Hindi Conference will be held from February 15 to 17, and speakers will include Jaishankar, V Muraleedharan, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, and Ajay Mishra Teni, Union Minister of State for Home.
The Conference’s central theme will be Hindi: From Traditional Knowledge to Artificial Intelligence.
The conference will feature a plenary session and ten parallel sessions on topics such as the use of Hindi in Girmitiya countries, Hindi in Fiji and the Pacific, IT and Hindi in the twenty-first century, media and the global perception of Hindi, the global reference of Indian knowledge traditions and Hindi, linguistic coordination, and Hindi translation.
Sessions on “Hindi cinema in a global context,” “Hindi in the global market,” “Pravasi Hindi literature in a shifting literary landscape,” and “Hindi education in India and the world: challenges and solutions” will be held concurrently.
The conference will be attended by 270 delegates from Hindi academia and government in Fiji.
According to Kumar, delegates from all over the world will attend the conference.
Biman Chand Prasad, Fiji’s deputy prime minister, returned home on Friday after a five-day visit to India. Prasad travelled to Bengaluru for the India Energy Week and private meetings with Jaishankar.
Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama’s 16-year reign ended in December 2017 with the election of a new government comprised of three parties.
