In an optimistic declaration, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, also the president of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), shared his confidence in the party’s ability to secure a victory and maintain their hold on power, anticipating they will secure over 25 seats in the upcoming 40-member assembly elections.

Addressing reporters following the filing of his nomination from the Aizawl East-1 constituency, Zoramthanga articulated his belief that it’s the opposition party, Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and not the Congress, that poses the most substantial challenge to the MNF.
Positive Outlook on Retaining Power
Zoramthanga, a 79-year-old former rebel leader turned politician, spoke positively about the MNF’s prospects,stating, “We are optimistic about retaining power in Mizoram and securing more than 25 seats. People have shown their appreciation for the work accomplished over the past five years, despite financial constraints and numerous obstacles.”
Upcoming Elections
The assembly elections, comprising 40 seats, are scheduled to take place in a single phase on November 7, with the counting of votes set for December 3. In the 2018 assembly elections, Zoramthanga secured victory in the Aizawl East-1 constituency by defeating his nearest rival, the ZPM-backed independent candidate K Sapdanga, with a margin of 2,504 votes.
As Mizoram anticipates the upcoming elections, Zoramthanga’s unwavering confidence in the MNF’s success signals a fierce political battle on the horizon.
