However, the filmmaker appears to have gone through difficult times in his personal life, including separation and divorce.Disagreements reportedly arose between director Bala and Malar several years ago. They split up four years ago as a result of this. While Bala was focused on his work, Malar was frequently seen socialising with Jayam Ravi’s wife Aarti, singer Saindhavi, and her industry friends.Bala and Malar eventually decided to file for divorce. Their divorce was finalised in a family court on March 5.

On July 5, 2004, director Bala and Muthumalar married in a traditional ceremony in Madurai. Prarthana is their child. They decided to call it quits after 17 years of marriage.
