Methenamine hippurate is a medication that sterilizes urine by inhibiting the growth of certain bacteria. Previous research has suggested that it may be effective in preventing UTIs, but the evidence is inconclusive, and more randomized trials are required. Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) are a very common type of urinary tract infection. It can harm the kidneys, bladder, and the tubes that connect them. According to the researchers, the findings of this trial “might encourage patients and clinicians to consider methenamine hippurate as a first-line treatment for UTI prevention in women.”
