The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast bulletin predicting the formation of a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal around December 2. This comes in the wake of heavy rains affecting parts of Tamil Nadu since Tuesday night, resulting in waterlogging, traffic congestion, and tree felling.
IMD’s Forecast
The forecast indicates a well-marked low-pressure area in the southeast Bay of Bengal, expected to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours. Subsequently, the depression is likely to gradually evolve into a cyclonic storm by December 2.
Impact on Tamil Nadu
An orange alert has been declared for specific areas in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Villupuram, for December 2 and 3.
Weather-Related Disruptions
The heavy rainfall has already led to various disruptions, including waterlogging, traffic issues, and incidents of tree felling in several places.
