Delhi, August 12, 2023: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made a significant announcement regarding the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. In a bid to facilitate the public attending the Independence Day ceremony, metro train services in the national capital will commence at 5 a.m. on August 15.
Metro Services and Frequency
Commuters planning to attend the Independence Day event can benefit from this early start. The metro trains will operate on all lines from 5 a.m. at all terminal stations. Notably, the trains will run at a frequency of 30 minutes until 6 a.m., ensuring a convenient mode of transportation for the attendees.
Parking Restrictions for Enhanced Security
While the early metro services aim to ease travel for event participants, there are certain adjustments in place due to security measures. As a part of the security arrangements for the occasion, parking facilities at metro stations will not be available from 6 a.m. on August 14 until 2 p.m. on August 15. This measure aligns with efforts to ensure safety and streamline security measures.
Normal Timetable and Further Details
After 6 a.m., metro train services will resume according to their regular timetable. Commuters can expect trains to operate as per their usual schedules beyond the early morning period. The DMRC’s proactive approach in addressing transportation needs during significant events demonstrates its commitment to passenger convenience and safety.
Additional Measures by Delhi Police
In anticipation of the Independence Day celebrations, Delhi Police have issued a traffic advisory to manage vehicular movement smoothly. As part of this advisory, the area around the Red Fort will be closed for general traffic from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. on August 13. Only vehicles with appropriate labels will be permitted on these routes. Commuters without parking labels for the rehearsal should avoid specific roads, including C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernic Marg, Mandi House, and more.
As Delhi gears up to commemorate Independence Day, these proactive measures by both the DMRC and Delhi Police aim to ensure a safe and efficient experience for all attendees. The early start of metro services coupled with parking restrictions for enhanced security underline the commitment to a successful Independence Day celebration.
