The family of a deceased person in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district faced a heart-wrenching ordeal when they were unable to find an ambulance in the remote area. As a result, they had to resort to carrying the body of their 23-year-old relative on a two-wheeler.
A Short Journey Before Help Arrived

According to a district official, the family only had to travel a short distance with the body on the two-wheeler before an ambulance finally reached the spot. The deceased, a resident of Krushnar village in Bhamragadh taluka, had been undergoing treatment for tuberculosis when he passed away at a private hospital in Hemalkasa.
Making Do with Limited Resources
With no ambulance available to move the body from the hospital, the family improvised by fixing a wooden cot to the two-wheeler to take their loved one’s remains home for the last rites.
Efforts to Arrange Assistance
Despite being unable to contact the municipal or health department staff to arrange for a hearse or ambulance, the family pressed on, determined to conduct the final rites with dignity.
A Helping Hand
Fortunately, a police patrolling vehicle spotted the two-wheeler and promptly intervened. The officer reached out to the taluka health officer, requesting immediate assistance.
Seeking Closure
An ambulance was eventually arranged, and the deceased’s body was taken to a government hospital for necessary formalities. The family was then able to transport it 17 kilometers to the location of the final rites.
Necessary Aid Provided
As soon as the health department was alerted to the situation, they swiftly provided the necessary assistance to the grieving family.
This tragic incident highlights the challenges faced by residents in remote areas when emergency services, like ambulances, are not easily accessible.
