Due to the Kanwar Mela, the Haridwar district administration has issued an order for the temporary closure of all schools and Anganwadi centers from July 10 to July 17. This decision aims to ensure the safety and security of participants during the religious festival.
Impact on Education

In light of the upcoming Kanwar Mela, all schools from classes 1 to 12 in Haridwar will remain closed during the specified period. District Magistrate Dheeraj Garbyal confirmed the closure, stating that it is necessary in view of the Kanwar Mela. Additionally, educational institutions in Muzaffarnagar have also been temporarily shut down until July 16 due to the Kanwar Yatra.
Kanwar Mela and Shiva Devotees

The Kanwar Mela attracts a significant number of Shiva devotees from across the country to Haridwar. Participants gather to collect sacred water from the Ganga and then perform ‘jalabhishek,’ a ritualistic offering of water, in Shiva temples on the auspicious occasion of Shiva Trayodashi.
Security Measures in Place
To ensure the safety and security of participants, the Uttarakhand government has implemented extensive security measures for the Kanwar Yatra. The Kanwar fair area has been divided into super zones, zones, and sectors. A substantial deployment of paramilitary personnel, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) companies, and police personnel, along with bomb disposal squads and trained dog squads, has been arranged. Approximately 300 CCTV cameras will aid in maintaining constant vigilance.
