In the wake of recent military-level discussions, the armed forces of India and China have come together for Major General-level talks in DBO and Chushul, with the aim of resolving the ongoing stand-off in eastern Ladakh. This development follows a media report detailing the efforts of both nations to de-escalate tensions in the region.
Joint Statement Emphasizes Swift Resolution and Continued Dialogue

During these talks, Indian military officials Maj Gen PK Mishra and Maj Gen Hariharan represented their respective sides. The discussions primarily focused on finding solutions to the issues at Depsang Plains and CNN Junction. Notably, these talks occurred just five days after the 19th round of the China-India Corps Commander level meeting held at the Chushul-Moldo border on the Indian side from August 13 to 14. In this meeting, both nations displayed a shared commitment to resolving numerous issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
A joint statement was issued emphasizing the urgency of resolving issues and sustaining productive dialogue through both military and diplomatic channels. The statement highlighted a positive and in-depth exchange of views on remaining concerns along the LAC’s Western Sector. This discourse was aligned with leadership guidance and conducted in an open and forward-looking manner.
Commitment to Peace and Tranquillity
Furthermore, the joint statement underscored the mutual agreement to swiftly address outstanding issues and to perpetuate the momentum of constructive dialogue and negotiations through the aforementioned channels. In the interim, both sides concurred on the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity within the border areas.
Moving Forward from a Hiatus
These talks mark a significant development after a four-month hiatus in such interactions. The preceding meeting between the two nations at the Corps Commander level transpired in April of the same year. The timing of these discussions is particularly noteworthy, as both sides have been actively involved in bolstering their respective border positions through rapid construction activities.
Disengagement and Peaceful Resolution
The engagement between Indian and Chinese militaries stems from their efforts to de-escalate and disengage following clashes between the two forces. Since then, the nations have successfully disengaged from multiple confrontation points and strategically shifted to new positions to prevent further clashes and facilitate peaceful resolutions.
As the situation unfolds, the world watches closely, with hopes that continued dialogue and diplomatic efforts will lead to lasting stability along the border.
