Longest Day……….! For those living in the north of Ecuador, 21 June is the longest day of 2021. From a technical point of view, this day is the longest day in the summer. It happens when the sun is directly over the cancer tropic or more specifically over 23.5°N.

Why do we get the solstice of summer? Since the earth rotates on its axis, during a day between March and September, the Northern Hemisphere gets more direct sunlight, which also allows people to experience summer in the northern Hemisphere during that day.

The Northern Hemisphere normally receives the maximum amount of sunlight during this period on 20, 21 or 22 June. The Southern Hemisphere, by contrast, receives most sunlight on 21, 22 or 23 December when it has the longest nights – or the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere.
