UAE Global Cadres Initiative Connects Emirati Students in US with Top Global Financial Institutions

UAE’s Ministry of Finance hosts key awareness session at UAE Embassy in Washington, introducing Emirati students to international finance careers.

In a powerful step toward cultivating the next generation of global financial leaders, the UAE Ministry of Finance held an awareness session at the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC, gathering a group of Emirati students based in the United States. The event marked the launch of the UAE Global Cadres initiative, which is designed to prepare young Emiratis for impactful roles in international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).

Building Global Career Pathways for UAE Youth

The session was attended by key figures from the Ministry of Finance, including Younis Haji AlKhoori, Undersecretary; Ali Abdullah Sharafi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for International Financial Relations; and Thuraiya Hamid AlHashmi, Director of International Financial Relations and Organisations. Representatives from the IMF and WBG provided comprehensive insights into recruitment procedures, training programmes, and long-term career planning.

“Through this initiative, we aim to provide clear pathways for secondment, training, and employment in the world’s leading financial organisations,” said AlKhoori, emphasising the strategic value of investing in national talent.

The Role of the UAE Embassy in Student Engagement

Alia Al Suwaidi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the UAE Embassy in Washington, highlighted the Embassy’s ongoing support for Emirati students in the US:

“We believe in their vital role as ambassadors of our nation’s values. These gatherings allow them to expand their knowledge and build professional networks for future global careers.”

The event is one of many under the Embassy’s efforts to foster engagement and leadership among UAE nationals abroad.

Key Highlights from the Session

  • Training Opportunities: Students were briefed on internships, graduate programmes, and secondment options available within the IMF and WBG.
  • Specialisations in Demand: Economics, international relations, finance, and accounting were identified as key focus areas for entry into global institutions.
  • Career Navigation Tips: Presenters shared practical advice on adapting to multicultural workplaces and building sustainable international careers.

Students showed high levels of engagement, raising questions on application processes, qualifications, and career planning in global financial environments.

Part of a Larger Vision

The UAE Global Cadres initiative is part of a nationwide talent strategy, aligning with the government’s vision to increase Emirati representation in global leadership roles. It complements other diplomatic and financial outreach programmes spearheaded by the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs in major cities such as Washington, London, and Geneva.

“This is the gateway to a future where UAE youth lead on global platforms,” said AlKhoori, reinforcing the initiative’s long-term goal of building influence through skilled representation.

Looking Forward

As the UAE deepens its ties with global financial organisations, the UAE Global Cadres programme is expected to be a transformational force in preparing national talent for roles that shape international financial policy and development. With a foundation in rigorous training and real-world experience, young Emiratis are being empowered to lead with purpose and represent the nation on the world stage.
