Namo Bharat Corridor: PM Modi Launches Delhi-Ghaziabad Rapid Rail for Faster Commutes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled the much-anticipated Namo Bharat Corridor, a significant milestone in India’s push for modern and efficient public transport. Spanning 13 kilometres between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, this corridor is part of the larger Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
With a total investment of ₹4,600 crore, this corridor promises to revolutionise travel in the region by reducing commute times and improving connectivity.

Key Features of the Namo Bharat Corridor

- Stretch and Stations
The new section adds three RRTS stations in Delhi: New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, and Sahibabad. These stations will now link commuters seamlessly to the previously operational Uttar Pradesh segment, which spans 42 kilometres and covers nine stations up to Meerut South. - Fares and Classes
The fare structure offers affordable travel options:- Standard Coach: ₹150 from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, ₹130 from Anand Vihar.
- Premium Coach: ₹255 from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, ₹195 from Anand Vihar.
Premium coaches feature red seats, while standard coaches are equipped with blue seats.
- Cutting Travel Time
The corridor significantly reduces travel time. For instance, a journey from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South now takes less than 40 minutes.
Current Operations and Future Plans

The operational RRTS section now stretches 54 kilometres, covering 11 stations. While the Sahibabad-New Ashok Nagar section is functional, work on the segment connecting New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan is nearing completion. This includes the much-awaited underground Anand Vihar station, the only one of its kind on the corridor so far.
Additionally, the fourth station, Jungpura, will be developed later, along with a stabling yard to enhance operations.
