Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian cricketer, was seen donning Sanju Samson’s jersey during the first One-Day International (ODI) match against the West Indies in Barbados. The reason behind this unusual occurrence was a problem with the T-shirt size and a delay in the delivery of a replacement.
Yadav’s Request to Team Management
According to reports from The Indian Express, Yadav informed the team management about the size issue with his jersey on the night before the game. Although he managed to use the jersey for a photo shoot, he requested a different jersey size.
A “Medium” Instead of a “Large” Jersey
On the matchday, Yadav was supplied with a jersey in “medium” size, which did not fit him properly. As a result, he sought help from his Mumbai teammate, Sanju Samson, who was not participating in the first ODI.
Samson Lends His Jersey
Since it is against the rules for athletes to tape their names on the back of their jerseys, Yadav had to find an alternative solution. He asked Sanju Samson to lend him his jersey, which featured Samson’s name on it, to avoid any violations.
Replacement Delayed Until After Second ODI
Although Yadav requested a new jersey, it was learned that he won’t receive it until after the second ODI scheduled for Saturday, 29 July. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has arranged for the shipment of new jerseys for the players selected for the T20 series.
Adidas and Dream 11 as Indian Team Sponsors
Adidas will serve as the uniform sponsor for the Indian cricket team in the upcoming season, while Dream 11 has earned the privilege of being the major sponsor for the team.
It remains to be seen if Yadav will continue wearing Samson’s jersey for the second ODI until he receives his new one. This incident adds an interesting twist to the cricketing world, showcasing the camaraderie between players and their willingness to support each other in unique situations.
