EA has confirmed that Battlefield 6 is not limited to PS5 and Xbox Series X, getting a cross-platform launch on PS4 and Xbox One. The news will come as a blow to fans expecting a true next-gen experience for this year’s franchise return.
EA discussed how Battlefield 6 will benefit from its development focus by focusing on current-gen consoles – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – although it will also launch last-gen hardware – PS4 and Xbox One.
The fact that Battlefield 6 won’t be exclusive to current-gen consoles seems somewhat obvious in the grand scheme of things – with still prevalent scalpers and low stock and a huge, active instal base for PS4 and Xbox One. But EA only made it official last night in an earnings call to investors.
Battlefield 6 – What People May Say
Which led people to ask – well, if it also comes to PS4 and Xbox One, what did next-gen development focus mean?
“The specific reference from our prepared remarks is about the character of gameplay,” Wilson continued, “what we will do with game fidelity, what we will do with physics, AI , and the game’s immersive nature.
“And in the case of Battlefield, what can we do in terms of the number of games we can have in the game and the nature of the destruction of those moments only in Battlefield that are truly next-gen opportunities we can do in our next-gen franchises because of the increased processing power in memory and output of the new consoles.”
EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the multi-platform release during this week’s earnings call, saying the sport is going to be available “for both current-gen and next-gen, as will our sports titles.”
Plus: Xbox Series X gets updated to the original Xbox.
After rumours that Battlefield 6 may be exclusive to the new consoles, the revelation casts doubts as to what kind of next-gen improvements the game will have.
