Indira Hridayesh, a veteran Congress leader and the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly, died on Sunday in Delhi. She died early Sunday morning at Uttarakhand Sadan.

Hridayesh, an MLA from Haldwani in the Nainital district, was a prominent face of the party in the Kumaon region and a contender for the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the state.

Hridayesh was five times a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
